Tray Facelift

So, I've had this tray for a few years now, it was mainly hidden away in the kitchen somewhere, since I never really knew what to do with it.  Thank goodness I did not get rid of it, because now it has come in handy.

It used to be a dark mahogany color, which was not bad, but I have to many dark things in my house, and it just blended it.  So I decided to paint it, and give it a "new look" with scrapbook paper.

Here are the some of the  supplies I used:

Tray
Scrapbook paper
Sanding block
Scissors

I first started by painting the tray with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Old White, I did not need to sand, because this paint is just awesome like that!  And it dries super fast. I decided to distress the edges a little with a sanding block, to give it some character.  I then sealed that with Annie Sloan clear wax.

Once that was done, I took my scrapbook paper, cut to fix inside the tray, and used Mod Podge to adhere it.  I also used Mod Podge to seal it on top, this took about 15 minutes to completely dry.

Then, it was time to play around with accessories, and the necessities.

It currently houses all the TV, DVD, and cable remotes, along with coasters, and any books my kids have brought downstairs. This was not a major project, but one that I can enjoy seeing every time we are watching TV and relaxing.

  4. Hi Kristel, lovely job you did on the tray. Everyone is talking about the Annie Sloan paint and I just wish I knew if I could get it locally. A new Michaels store is supposed to be opening up here in the near future so perhaps they will have it, I can only hope. Thanks for sharing and Happy New Year. I have recently found your blog and am now following you, and will visit often. Please stop by my blog and perhaps you would like to follow me also. Have a wonderful day. Hugs, Chris
