Chateau Grey Tv Cabinet

I have been busy this new year, organizing and painting, and re-arranging things all over the house.  I don't know what's gotten into me..ha..ha.  Anyhow, we recently decided to purchase a t.v cabinet for the family room, something with a little more height than the one we currently have.  I even mounted the t.v to the wall this past weekend in anticipation to the delivery of said cabinet.  I can't wait.

In the meantime, I have given the old t.v stand a little makeover, thanks to Annie Sloan.

I really like the look of the cabinet, and it was originally going to go in my son's room, but it ended up being too wide.  I was also looking for something to fill in a spot in the living room that has been bugging me, I couldn't decide if to get a chair or a bookcase or something for that spot.  Well, this cabinet fit the spot perfectly, and now I don't have to buy another piece of furniture for it.

Before

All the furniture in the living room and dining room are dark mahogany, the cabinet being black just looked out of place.  I thought, why not make it into an accent piece?

I had purchased the Annie Sloan chalk paint in Chateau Grey a few weeks ago, it really is not a gray color at all, but a more muted green.  Perfect accent color, because it goes with the rug I have in that room.

In progress
And here are the Afters:

I did two coats of the paint, and two coats of the clear wax, sanded in between to give it a little worn look.  I do think that the dark wax would probably look better on a color like this, but, unfortunately, I do not own that, and I truly did not feel like spending more, this stuff is expensive enough.

I added some accessories I have collected, like the wooden wine box, and the glass drinking bottles, along with my $5 Pottery Barn clock that I got at an outlet (I should have gotten one for every room in this house) and a World Market terrarium.

And just because he has to be everywhere I'm at, especially when he hears the camera, here is Charlie, doing the two things he loves the most, looking out the window, and staring at his reflection in the cabinet glass:

Once the new cabinets have been delivered, I will try to post pictures of the family room.  In the meantime, have a great week.

Kristel

  1. That looks great. I have used that color on my mantel and a buffet. The dark wax does change the color some. It actually makes it greener. Thanks for joining wow.

  2. Hi Kim, one of the reasons I chose this color was because I saw it on your buffet, but I do have to say, it does look better with the dark wax, and of course, it helps that you know how to paint furniture, unlike me :)

  11. this is so pretty and I really like that color. I just painted with AS for the first time but used Old White. I was going to go for Chateau Green but thought it may come out too dingy of a color, I'm glad to see I was wrong and may be ordering this color next!

  18. Beautiful! Not only do I adore your cabinet, I love your whole space! I even love the contrast between the wine crate and your cabinet. Did you stain it? If you did, I would stain the ones I have. I even love your area rug? It actually looks like really thick carpet tiles. Okay I am going to stop here before people wonder if you composed this comment yourself:) Well done!
