Personal Subway Art

I have been playing around with this empty wall in my family room, trying to figure out what I can fill it up with.  For a few weeks now, I have been wanting to create a subway art picture, they are everywhere lately, and I love seeing all those city names on them.  I happened to have on hand some leftover MDF from a previous project, just lying in the garage. I had to do some very minor cuttings, to fit all the pieces to make the frame.  Once those where cut, all I used was wood glue to glue them all together.

Family Room

I finally received the cabinet I had been waiting for today. I couldn't be happier, especially since it is the  exact same one from Pottery Barn, but for a lot less.  We purchased them (there is two) from Rooms To Go, I couldn't find it online, but they should have it in the store if you are interested.

I still need to fill that wall where the cabinet is with pictures, but I will take my time, and make sure that what goes up there, is something I really like.

So, here is the family room.  It has a lot of red and yellow accent colors (my fave).  I made the red pillow covers, the others I purchased at Pottery Barn, I know, I am obsessed with that store, but really, I only own 1 piece of furniture from there, and it was the cheapest of it's kind, and yes, I do have a lot of their accessories, but I do tend to get them when they are on sale, it also helps that we have an outlet store a few hours away from us too.

And here is the family room:

Chateau Grey Tv Cabinet

I have been busy this new year, organizing and painting, and re-arranging things all over the house.  I don't know what's gotten into me..ha..ha.  Anyhow, we recently decided to purchase a t.v cabinet for the family room, something with a little more height than the one we currently have.  I even mounted the t.v to the wall this past weekend in anticipation to the delivery of said cabinet.  I can't wait.

In the meantime, I have given the old t.v stand a little makeover, thanks to Annie Sloan.

Kitchen

I wanted to share some pictures of our kitchen of when we first moved in the house, to how it currently is now.  The only major things we did to it, was getting the new floors, and changing the light fixture.

The floors were professionally done, but I had the task of removing the ugly fluorescent light fixtures (there were two) that were in the kitchen.  What made the task even more painful, was that is was encased  in this molding whatyamacallit (sorry, don't know the name).  You can see it in the before pictures.  That thing was heavy, and I had to use a pry tool to remove it little by little on each corner.  Why would any one decide to put one of those ugly things, I don't know.  Then I had to patch up the holes left by the fluorescent lights, four in total.

Cleaning Tip

Any body who knows me personally, and has been to my house, knows that I'm a bit of a clean freak, in fact, I may be a little of an addict.  The house can be spotless, but if I feel that it might be dirty, I will have to clean it.  I know, some of you might think I need help, but really, who am I bothering with my cleaning, in fact, it sometimes relaxes me, weird huh?

I am always on the look out for products to help me in my madness, but I find that those certain products, just don't cut it, and end up doing a pretty bad job.  One of those said products, are window and mirror cleaners.

I have tried every brand out there, but always, ALWAYS, end up with streaky windows and mirrors.

Since I recently purchased a new mirror for my dining room, I wanted to find a way to help keep it clean, and streak free.  I tried my very best to hang that heavy mirror, with as little handprints as possible, but, alas, that was not the case.  I cleaned it with a glass cleaner, and of course, the streaks were left behind.
